139 call charges Rs.3 per SMS – Railway enquiry

Centralised Railway Enquiry System 139 charges:

Railway enquiry number 139 charges are not known for many railway passengers. This Rail Sampark number 139 is being managed in private & public partnership by sharing the revenue received through calls & SMS from telecom operators.

Following call charges are applicable for calls received on 139:

Landline:
Rs. 1.20 for a pulse of 180 seconds for calls from Metro cities while for calls from non-metro cities/areas the charges are Rs. 1.20 for a pulse of 60 second.

Mobile:
Rs. 1.20 for a pulse of 60 seconds for calls from Metro cities while for calls from non-metro cities/areas the charges are Rs. 2 for a pulse of 60 second.

SMS:
SMS (Pull) cost is Rs. 3 per SMS.

According to sources, 139 receives around 15 lakh calls and 5 lakh SMS every day. These charges are fixed an valid till 2017 as per the agreement between indian railways and franchisee.
