Railways plan to merge Emergency Quota in to Tatkal Quota
To meet urgent requirements Railways have introduced Emergency Quota for passengers. This quota includes VIP’s, Central Government Ministers, Supreme Court Judges, High Court of various States, MP’s, and MLA’s and other emergency cases like Pregnant Woman, Sickness etc. There are limited number of berths available under this quota. This quota is however not available to book tickets online using IRCTC portal. Passengers have to approach the railway counters directly.
Railways targeting on these limited Seats even. It’s trying to gain 150 Crores from passengers by including these berths in to Tatkal and Collecting Tatkal charges from them.
Railways allot some berths in every train as Emergency Quota Berths under all the 17 Railway Zones.
As earlier to 2009 this quota is shared by Senior Citizens, Pregnant Woman, MP’s, MLA’s etc. Total quota is divided in to different categories. ‘A’ Category includes Central and State Ministers; Judges etc. ‘B’ Category includes Gunman of Ministers etc. The last category includes Railway Employees, Railway Unions, Patients, Pregnant Woman, and Job Interviews etc .Depending on the Applications received and based on priority Railway allots 5 to 25 berths under EQ quota.
But from the past few years this EQ quota is being misused by some others. Due to this reason Railway Board decided to include EQ quota in to Tatkal. Based on the applications received the berths will be allotted under Tatkal quota.
Before few hours of departure of the train the berths will be allotted under this quota .In such case for the allotted berth tatkal fare will be taken from the passenger in the train itself. Railway authorities are in a plan to implement the same. If this is the case Railways will gain an income of 150 Crores yearly only from this quota tickets.
Final decision will be announced based on the discussion finalized by Authorities.
